Overview
Optimized Process Designs, LLC (OPD) is seeking an Ironworker Helper for a jobsite in Baytown II, Texas. OPD is an engineering and construction company with a strong reputation in the natural gas and petrochemical industries, providing a one-stop shop for project execution.
Responsibilities
- Assemble and secure structural supports according to specifications and instruction from Ironworker.
- Possess basic practical knowledge of structural steel assembly and installation.
- Demonstrate willingness to learn and understand structural drawings.
- Be familiar with torque wrench and impact gun for structural work.
- Understand setup and required tools and materials for safe heavy lifting.
- Assist Ironworker in attaching loads using chains, slings, cables, hooks, and other equipment.
- Manually handle and securely apply rigging equipment.
- Take direction from the Ironworker on attaching and detaching loads effectively.
- Communicate effectively with the rigging team.
- Be familiar with standard crane hand signals.
- Learn to assess weight capacity and lift points from drawings.
- Learn to cut i-beams with grinder, torch, or band saw per structural drawing.
- Work at heights in man baskets or on elevated platforms over 80% of the time.
Requirements
- At least 1 year of experience as an ironworker helper.
- Ability to read a tape measure and perform basic math.
- Knowledgeable of crane signals (hand and verbal).
- Must follow company safety procedures and industry best practices.
- Must be able to wear an approved full body harness and lanyard.
- Travel is required with extended periods away from home.
- Must be able to work shifts up to 12 hours per day and 7 days a week when needed.
