Overview

The UT Operator is responsible for operating and assisting in UT testing of pipe material according to plant policies and procedures, ensuring safe and compliant operations during their shift.

Responsibilities

  • Daily operation of in-line UT inspection equipment.
  • Reporting all Non-conformances and potential quality issues.
  • Helping problem solve any quality issues on line.
  • Performing daily prove-up on rejected material.
  • Maintaining current knowledge of all relevant SeAH SOP’s.
  • Performing inspection functions per ASNT SNT-TC-1A and API requirements.
  • Separating pipe needing further evaluation and ensuring proper segregation.
  • Monitoring operation by watching gauges and indicators.
  • Reviewing work orders and specifications for materials needed.
  • Detecting defects inherent to steel making and pipe manufacturing processes.
  • Conducting inspections to ensure quality and detect discontinuities using ultrasonic equipment.
  • Processing paperwork and test results accurately.
  • Determining if pipe meets SeAH specifications.
  • Reporting discrepancies in reports to QC Auditor / Mill Supervisor.
  • Ensuring proper procedures and paperwork are utilized.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent preferred but not required.
  • Training in Ultra Sonics and Quality.
  • Must have a Level 1 or Level 2 UT certification.
  • Ability to multi-task.
  • Good arithmetic skills are required.
  • Mechanical aptitude desired.
  • 2 years’ Quality Control experience preferred.
  • Manual dexterity required for operating machinery and tools.
  • Knowledge of manufacturing processes, procedures, and welding operations.
  • General proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and Databases, Track-Pro System preferred.

  • Ability to lift 25/50 pounds regularly.

  • Ability to safely climb ladders while carrying 40 pounds.
  • Ability to work in loud, hot environments/extreme weather while wearing required PPE.
