Overview
We are seeking a skilled and motivated Shafting Process Technician to join our Shafting Department within a dynamic industrial and machining environment. This role supports shafting operations, post weld heat treatment (PWHT), and general production processes in our shafting department shop.
Responsibilities
- Perform post weld heat treatment (PWHT) and stress relief on shafts and related components using Miller Pro Heat 35 induction heating systems.
- Set up, operate, and monitor induction heating equipment for controlled heat cycles according to specifications.
- Assist in shafting operations, including measuring, cutting, prepping, assembling, and finishing shaft components.
- Support heat treating processes (inductive preferred).
- Operate overhead cranes and forklifts safely to move materials and components.
- Perform hand grinding and deburring of metal components.
- Work with metal components in a manufacturing or industrial environment.
- Perform general mechanical troubleshooting and equipment handling.
- Operate and monitor production machinery and support shafting repair processes.
- Perform routine maintenance and basic troubleshooting on heat treatment and production equipment.
- Support machinists and technicians in rebuilding and repairing components within the shafting department.
- Read and interpret blueprints, work instructions, and process documentation accurately.
- Collaborate with team members to meet daily production goals and maintain workflow efficiency.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area in compliance with company and OSHA safety standards.
- Follow operational procedures and quality control standards consistently.
- Assist in training and mentoring new technicians on shafting processes and equipment operation.
Requirements
- Experience operating Miller Pro Heat 35 or equivalent induction heating equipment (required).
- Hands-on experience in post weld heat treat (PWHT) and stress relief procedures (required).
- Experience operating overhead cranes (required).
- Forklift experience or certification preferred.
- Experience with heat treating processes (induction preferred).
- Mechanical aptitude with experience in manufacturing, machining, fabrication, or industrial trades.
- Experience working with metal components in an industrial or manufacturing environment.
- Experience with hand grinding and deburring.
- Familiarity with shafting operations and rotating equipment repair preferred.
- Proficiency in using hand tools, power tools, and measurement instruments.
- Ability to lift heavy objects, stand for long periods, and perform physical work safely.
- Strong attention to detail and quality focus.
- Excellent teamwork, problem-solving, and communication skills.
- Dependable, safety-conscious, and able to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Willingness to work 12-hour shifts and overtime as required.
