Overview

The Tinsmith - Structures position at MTA Metro-North Railroad involves fabricating and installing sheet metal fittings and ductwork, as well as repairing roofing in railroad facilities. Metro-North Railroad is a major commuter railroad serving New York and Connecticut, committed to providing safe and reliable service to millions of customers.

Responsibilities

  • Fabricates sheet metal fittings and ductwork from drawings.
  • Installs and repairs ductwork and fittings in railroad facilities.
  • Fabricates pans and fittings from sheet copper.
  • Installs and repairs roofing, including shingles, roll roofing, tile, and roof cement.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma, GED, or TASC, or apprentice training as a Sheet Metal Worker.
  • Two years of work experience may substitute for vocational training.
  • Knowledge of telephone cable color codes and ability to read prints and use test equipment.
  • Must possess a valid Class D driver's license or equivalent.
  • Must have a personal toolbox with Sheet Metal tools.

Additional Information

  • This is a safety sensitive position and subject to toxicology testing.
  • Works outside exposed to various weather conditions.
  • Works at heights up to 50 ft. on scaffolds and ladders.
