Overview
The Plumber - Structures position at MTA Metro-North Railroad involves installing, maintaining, and repairing various piping systems in Metro-North stations and facilities. The agency is a key player in providing safe and reliable commuter rail services in New York and Connecticut, serving over 86.5 million customers annually.
Responsibilities
- Assemble, install, maintain and repair various types of piping and fittings.
- Maintain and repair plumbing lines by opening clogged drains.
- Install, maintain and repair plumbing appliances and fixtures.
- Detect and repair water leaks by isolating water flow.
- Maintain and repair fire sprinkler systems.
- Attend required trainings for plumber responsibilities.
- Locate and mark positions for pipe installations.
- Read and interpret blueprints and construction drawings.
- Cut openings in structures for pipes or fittings.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or General Equivalency Diploma.
- Vocational or apprentice training in plumbing and/or HVAC or two years of experience in plumbing and/or HVAC work.
- Mechanical aptitude and knowledge of plumbing tools.
- Ability to work with others and follow instructions.
- Ability to perform basic mental mathematical calculations.
- Must possess a valid NYS Class D driver's license or equivalent.
- Must have a personal toolbox with plumber's tools.
