Overview
The Field Mechanic I position at Wanzek Construction involves leading the operations and maintenance of equipment at job sites, ensuring proper functioning and safety standards. The role requires collaboration with project personnel and the Shop Manager to effectively manage fleet maintenance and perform repairs.
Responsibilities
- Manage fleet maintenance and perform preventative maintenance on all equipment.
- Travel to jobsites for repairs and inspections.
- Conduct onsite field repairs and troubleshooting.
- Update equipment locator list and maintain tool inventory.
- Develop and maintain an equipment maintenance tracking database.
- Ensure proper record keeping and update tool inventory.
- Operate equipment to diagnose problems and inspect for defects.
- Verify USDOT annual inspections for trucks.
- Ensure equipment safety and compliance with regulations.
- Supervise and coordinate the work of a 3rd party mechanic.
- Document all work performed and recommended on repair orders.
- Road test vehicles when required.
- Maintain a clean and organized shop area.
Requirements
- One-year certificate from college or technical school in Diesel or Automotive Technology.
- Two or more years of relevant experience.
- Certifications in Electrical diagnostics, A/C system diagnostics, Welding, or OEM certifications.
- Ability to diagnose complex mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical problems.
- Qualified to drive the 1-ton rig on site.
- Ability to work independently and efficiently.
