Overview
The Mate acts as second in command of the tug and barge, responsible for following the Captain's orders and ensuring the safety and maintenance of the vessel. Centerline Logistics is a leading provider of marine transportation services in the United States, operating on both coasts and providing various marine services.
Responsibilities
- Stands wheelhouse watch alternating with captain.
- Oversees safety of vessel including all installed equipment and inspections thereof.
- Maintains chart corrections and light lists for Area of Operations.
- Instructs deckhand on use of all tools and machinery onboard vessel.
- Assists captain in barge landings and communicates distances and directions accurately.
- Determines the need for and assigns lookouts as necessary.
- Inspects for cleanliness of vessel.
- Inventories supplies and orders as appropriate.
- Monitors onboard usage to ensure supplies are utilized efficiently.
- Performs other related duties as required.
Requirements
- Experience towing barges as Mate, preferably oil barges.
- Minimum 200 Ton Mate License Near Coastal.
- Mate of Towing Endorsement Near Coastal.
- Radar observer endorsement and Coast Guard approved firefighting training.
- Ability to understand and use information in cargo information cards and material safety data sheets.
- Possess a valid first aid/CPR certificate.
- Complete HAZWOPER training within 30 days of hire.
- Valid state driver license.

Additional Information
- Ability to live in confined spaces and get along with crew members for extended periods of time.
- Must be able to perform physical tasks such as pulling heavy lines/hoses and climbing.
- Exposure to all weather conditions.
- This position requires a 21 day equal rotation.
- Ability to adapt to a variety of schedules and hours, including weekends and holidays.
