Overview
The Pipe Welder Journeyman is responsible for planning, laying out, welding, installing, testing, and repairing various types of pipe and tubular products according to industry standards and specifications. This skilled position requires a strong working knowledge of welding techniques and the ability to work independently in a construction or industrial setting.
Responsibilities
- Plan, diagram, and lay out for pipe welder’s work.
- Coordinate with field labor crew for efficient installations.
- Position the weld setup, fit the piping, and perform precision welds independently.
- Lay out and assemble pipes accurately according to production standards and specifications.
- Make welding repairs and address substandard welds.
- Assist with coordination of any pre-fabrication layout or installation.
- Assist with rigging of material.
- Operate air arc gouger, grinder, stress relieving machine, and other industry tools.
- Estimate sizes, distances, and quantities needed for work activities.
- Inspect subordinate's work for compliance with contract plans and specifications.
Requirements
- Experience as a Pipe Welder Journeyman in a Power Plant or Industrial setting.
- Strong working knowledge, skills, and abilities for the position.
- Ability to understand, follow, and transmit written and oral instructions.
- Effective communication skills with management and supervision.
- Proficient in the safe and efficient use of electrical, hand tools, power tools, and layout tools.
Additional Information
- Must be able to move about a construction/industrial site and perform various physical activities.
- Work in changing outdoor weather conditions.
- Work irregular hours, weekends, overtime, and holidays as required.
- May need to use ladders, mechanical platforms, manlifts, or scaffolds to access work areas.
- Must be able to complete tasks in a noisy and dusty environment.
- May need to move items weighing up to 50 pounds.
