Job Description

Overview

The Test Technician position in Torrance, CA involves supporting the build, test, troubleshooting, and deployment of sensing systems from prototype assembly through on-water field operations. This role is part of a fast-growing team that establishes processes, documentation, and testing standards while working independently across the hardware lifecycle.

Responsibilities

  • Build, troubleshoot, and deploy buoy systems independently from prototype assembly through field operations.
  • Organize and manage the test area, including tool inventory, equipment storage, and workspace standards.
  • Coordinate and support test outings, including on-water deployment procedures.
  • Follow engineering procedures for assembly, testing, and field operations while creating SOPs for recurring test activities.
  • Support expanded testing operations with up to 25% travel to field sites.
  • Perform mechanical and electrical assembly, soldering, wiring, connector work, and checkout testing to verify functionality.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated ownership and initiative; proactively solves problems and closes gaps.
  • Comfortable working autonomously in a startup environment with evolving processes.
  • Hands-on experience with soldering, wiring, connector work, and electrical assembly.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills with a methodical approach to diagnosing issues.
  • Excellent documentation habits and ability to create repeatable processes.
  • Strong organization, time management, and ability to manage competing priorities.
  • Interest in learning across prototype assembly, electrical integration, field testing, and marine operations.
  • Marine or boating experience.
  • Experience in a hardware startup or prototyping environment.
  • Experience in manufacturing, test engineering, or electromechanical field operations.
