Overview
NYC Parks is responsible for maintaining over 30,000 acres of land in New York City, including various recreational facilities and programs. The Supervisor of Mechanics will oversee maintenance and repair operations, ensuring quality and safety standards are met.
Responsibilities
- Supervise the maintenance, alteration, repair, erection and dismantling of structures and equipment.
- Review and assist in the development of Project Work orders with Citywide Project Managers.
- Supervise the development of project plans including cost estimates for materials, equipment, and labor.
- Responsible for purchasing materials and equipment to avoid cost and schedule overruns.
- Prepare work schedules and assignments.
- Manage and supervise the work of skilled craftsmen, helpers, and other assigned staff.
- Ensure all administrative tasks are entered into the Parks Asset Management Parks System (AMPS).
- Monitor staff for disciplinary requirements and take appropriate action as needed.
- Estimate annual budget requirements and prepare job orders.
- Inspect job sites and equipment to determine the need for repair, alteration, and maintenance.
- Check jobs in progress for compliance with work standards, job orders, codes, and specifications.
- Maintain basic records and prepare reports.
- Open, assign, close, and follow-up on the status of work orders in AMPS.
- Approve all staff timesheets using City-time.
- Communicate with Senior and Field Management to ensure priorities are established.
Requirements
- Seven years of recent, full-time, satisfactory experience in a pertinent craftsman title, with at least two years in a supervisory capacity.
- A satisfactory equivalent.
- Valid New York State driver license.
- Strong supervisory, customer service, and technical skills.
- Excellent communication and organizational skills.
- Ability to work with a diverse group of people.
- Site work project experience including demolition, color seal coat installation, safety surface repairs, fencing repairs, bench replacement, and play equipment repairs.
