Overview

The Fireman Mechanic maintains, operates, and repairs all Boiler Room equipment at NewYork-Presbyterian/Columbia University Irving Medical Center. This full-time position involves rotating shifts and requires specific certifications and experience in high-pressure Boiler Room operations.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain, operate, and repair all Boiler Room equipment.
  • Repair boilers, pumps, compressors, fans, heaters, turbines, and other related equipment.
  • Operate Boiler Room equipment in a safe manner.
  • Perform preventive maintenance and keep logs on all Boiler Room equipment.
  • Maintain work area in a clean and safe condition.
  • Electronically input data into handheld devices as required.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • New York City Fire Department Certificate of Fitness for Supervision of Fuel Oil Transfers in building P-98 within the probation period.
  • New York City Fire Department Certificate of Fitness to Operate and Maintain Air Compressors A-35.
  • Minimum of three years’ experience in high pressure Boiler Room operation or equivalent education consisting of a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering.

Additional Information

  • Full-time rotating shifts position, Tuesday - Thursday 8:00 am to 4:00 pm, and Friday and Saturday 4:00 pm to 12:00 am.
  • All roles require on-site presence.
  • Employees should live within a commutable distance to NYP.
  • NYP will not reimburse for travel expenses.
