Overview
As a Pipeline Specialist at Kinder Morgan, you will coordinate and complete pipeline operations and maintenance tasks in support of various functions including plant, pipeline, and mechanical maintenance. The role involves performing a variety of technical tasks while ensuring compliance with safety and environmental regulations.
Responsibilities
- Assist with hot tapping and stopple equipment, perform valve maintenance, and conduct pigging operations.
- Perform pipe cleaning, hydrostatic testing, and leak surveys using flame ionization equipment.
- Lead and train others, ensure compliance, and oversee contractors.
- Operate and maintain heavy excavation equipment including hydrovac trucks and backhoes.
- Manage excavation crossings and perform troubleshooting on DOT mainline isolation valves.
- Launch and monitor pipeline pigs and develop pigging plans.
- Disassemble and clean meter tubes.
- Transport heavy equipment and materials to job sites using large trucks.
- Calibrate holiday detectors for coating application inspection.
- Perform pressure tests of pipelines and fabrications.
- Locate and mark pipelines using detection equipment.
- Repair pipeline casings and install CP test points.
- Prepare pipelines for anomaly repairs.
- Evacuate and purge pipelines for hot work operations.
- Perform basic acetylene cutting and beveling operations.
- Complete administrative tasks including ordering parts and maintaining time sheets.
- Act as a company representative when interacting with contractors and vendors.
- Identify and report safety and environmental concerns.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Must follow safety, environmental, and regulatory policies.
- Strong mechanical skills and knowledge of heavy equipment maintenance.
- Ability to operate heavy pipeline excavation equipment.
- Ability to read and interpret company policies, O&M manuals, and blueprints.
- Good communication skills.
- Basic computer skills and math skills.
- Focused on customer service.
- Ability to work with a team and take direction.
- Must have or acquire a valid CDL driver license.
Additional Information
- Position requires outdoor work in a pipeline construction environment.
- Must be available for call outs 24/7, except during paid time off.
- Typical work schedule is Monday through Thursday, 10 hours per day, with potential for overtime.
- Significant overnight travel upwards of 70% or more is required.
- Must live or relocate within 60 miles of reporting location.
