Overview
The Heavy Shop Mechanic is responsible for repairing and maintaining the operation of all City trucks and Heavy Duty equipment, as well as smaller engine equipment. The role emphasizes a supportive work environment with a focus on work-life balance.
Responsibilities
- Perform preventative maintenance on city trucks and Heavy Duty equipment.
- Diagnose and repair city trucks and Heavy Duty equipment and smaller equipment.
- Order necessary parts as needed.
- Maintain a clean and orderly Fleet Shop.
- Complete work labor and task information.
- Availability to work varying shifts including nights, weekends, holidays, overtime, and twenty-four/seven (24/7) emergency call-out.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or General Equivalency Diploma (GED).
- 2 years related experience.
- Must own basic hand and air tools.
- Ability to lift over 50lbs.
- 6 months to 1 year advanced training in Diesel mechanics preferred.
- 2-4 years experience in automotive shop repair and diagnosis preferred.
- General knowledge of truck and or small engine and equipment repair and diagnostics.
- General knowledge of Fleet software processes.
- Skill in utilizing Cummins software.
- Skill in performing preventative maintenance on Diesel trucks and Heavy Duty equipment.
- Must obtain 1 Truck ASE Certification within one year of hire.
- Valid Class A or B Commercial Texas driver's license or the ability to obtain within 6 months of hire.
