Overview

The Heavy Shop Mechanic is responsible for repairing and maintaining the operation of all City trucks and Heavy Duty equipment, as well as smaller engine equipment. The role emphasizes a supportive work environment with a focus on work-life balance.

Responsibilities

  • Perform preventative maintenance on city trucks and Heavy Duty equipment.
  • Diagnose and repair city trucks and Heavy Duty equipment and smaller equipment.
  • Order necessary parts as needed.
  • Maintain a clean and orderly Fleet Shop.
  • Complete work labor and task information.
  • Availability to work varying shifts including nights, weekends, holidays, overtime, and twenty-four/seven (24/7) emergency call-out.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or General Equivalency Diploma (GED).
  • 2 years related experience.
  • Must own basic hand and air tools.
  • Ability to lift over 50lbs.
  • 6 months to 1 year advanced training in Diesel mechanics preferred.
  • 2-4 years experience in automotive shop repair and diagnosis preferred.
  • General knowledge of truck and or small engine and equipment repair and diagnostics.
  • General knowledge of Fleet software processes.
  • Skill in utilizing Cummins software.
  • Skill in performing preventative maintenance on Diesel trucks and Heavy Duty equipment.
  • Must obtain 1 Truck ASE Certification within one year of hire.
  • Valid Class A or B Commercial Texas driver's license or the ability to obtain within 6 months of hire.

Additional Information

  • Work schedule options include 6:00 AM – 3:00 PM or 9:00 AM – 6:00 PM, Monday – Friday.
