Job Description

Overview

The LRV Mechanic is responsible for preventive maintenance, inspection, troubleshooting, repair, and maintenance of rail vehicles for the Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART) Rail Maintenance Division. This position requires technical expertise in diagnosing and repairing Light Rail vehicle systems while ensuring compliance with safety and quality assurance programs.

Responsibilities

  • Perform technician level diagnosis of Light Rail vehicle malfunctions and make necessary repairs.
  • Conduct preventative maintenance inspections and repairs, removing and replacing malfunctioning vehicle components.
  • Diagnose Light Rail vehicles within the service area main line during emergency recovery situations.
  • Perform Light Rail vehicle re-railing.
  • Promote and comply with established safety, training, and quality assurance programs.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Associates Degree or certification in Electronics Technology, Mechanical Technology, or equivalent experience.
  • Must obtain and maintain certification in compliance with state and federal regulations.
  • Must successfully complete LRV/streetcar vendor training.
  • Valid Drivers License class C with specific driving record requirements.
  • Pass a physical examination and comply with random alcohol and drug testing.
  • Good oral and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency with personal computer and MS Office applications.
  • Ability to work in a safe manner and maintain constant alertness.
