Overview

The Field Mechanic position at Wanzek Construction involves leading the operations and maintenance of equipment at job sites, working under project personnel and in collaboration with the Shop Manager. The role requires travel to various job sites for repairs and inspections, ensuring equipment safety and efficiency.

Responsibilities

  • Manage fleet maintenance and perform preventative maintenance on all equipment.
  • Travel to jobsites for repairs and inspections.
  • Conduct onsite field repairs and troubleshooting.
  • Update equipment locator list and maintain tool inventory.
  • Develop and maintain an equipment maintenance tracking database.
  • Ensure proper record keeping and update tool inventory.
  • Operate equipment to diagnose problems and inspect for defects.
  • Verify USDOT annual inspections are on file.
  • Ensure all equipment safety measures are in place.
  • Show expertise in basic and complex machines, including crane safety.
  • Review maintenance records with operators and superintendents.
  • Perform work as outlined on repair orders efficiently and accurately.
  • Diagnose malfunctions and perform necessary repairs.
  • Communicate effectively to obtain needed parts.
  • Document all work performed on repair orders.
  • Road test vehicles when required.
  • Identify machinery defects and complete repairs.
  • Maintain a clean and organized shop area.
  • Account for all shop tools and manuals.
  • Comply with federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Operate tools and equipment safely.
  • Report any safety issues immediately.

Requirements

  • One-year certificate from college or technical school in Diesel or Automotive Technology.
  • Two or more years of relevant experience.
  • One or more certifications in Electrical diagnostics, A/C system diagnostics, Welding, or OEM certification.
  • Ability to diagnose complex mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical problems.
  • Ability to supervise and coordinate the work of a 3rd party mechanic.
  • Ability to track and maintain records of completed work.
  • High level of efficiency with a minimum of 80% efficiency.
  • Willingness to work independently and go above and beyond.
