Overview
The Field Mechanic position at Wanzek Construction involves leading the operations and maintenance of construction equipment at job sites, working under project supervision and collaborating with the Shop Manager. The role requires extensive travel to various job sites for repairs and inspections, ensuring equipment safety and compliance with regulations.
Responsibilities
- Manage fleet maintenance and perform preventative maintenance on all equipment.
- Travel to jobsites for repairs and inspections, ensuring proper field maintenance.
- Conduct onsite field repairs and troubleshooting.
- Update equipment locator lists and maintain tool inventory.
- Develop and maintain an equipment maintenance tracking database.
- Maintain accurate record keeping and update tool inventory.
- Operate equipment to diagnose problems and inspect for defects.
- Verify USDOT annual inspections for trucks and maintain records.
- Ensure equipment safety features are operational.
- Demonstrate expertise in basic and complex machinery, including crane safety.
- Review maintenance records with operators and superintendents.
- Perform repairs efficiently and accurately according to standards.
- Diagnose malfunctions and perform necessary repairs.
- Communicate effectively to obtain needed parts.
- Document all work performed and recommended on repair orders.
- Road test vehicles when required.
- Identify machinery defects and complete repairs.
- Maintain a clean and organized shop area.
- Account for all shop tools and manuals.
- Comply with federal, state, and local regulations.
- Operate tools and equipment safely.
- Report safety issues to management immediately.
Requirements
- One-year certificate from college or technical school in Diesel or Automotive Technology.
- Two or more years of relevant experience.
- Certifications in Electrical diagnostics, A/C system diagnostics, Welding, or OEM certifications.
- Ability to diagnose complex mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical problems.
- Ability to supervise and coordinate the work of a third-party mechanic.
- Ability to track and maintain records of completed work.
- High level of efficiency with a minimum rework requirement.
- Qualified to drive a 1-ton rig on site and between projects.
- Willingness to work independently and go above and beyond.
