Overview

The Pipe Welder position in Big Lake, AK involves laying out, assembling, installing, and maintaining pipe systems and related equipment for various industrial applications. This non-rotational role requires a certified pipe welder with at least three years of experience.

Responsibilities

  • Obtain specified electrode and insert it into the portable holder or thread consumable electrode wire through the portable welding gun.
  • Connect cables from the welding unit to obtain specified amperage, voltage, slope, and pulse.
  • Start power supply to produce electric current.
  • Strike arc to generate heat for melting and depositing metal from the electrode to the work piece.
  • Manually guide electrode or gun along weld line to form specified depth of fusion and bead.
  • Weld in flat, horizontal, vertical, or overhead positions.
  • Examine weld for bead size and other specifications.
  • Apply filler rod manually to supply weld metal.
  • Clean or degrease weld joint or work piece.
  • Repair broken or cracked parts and fill holes.
  • Prepare broken parts for welding by grooving or scarring surfaces.
  • Chip off excess weld, slag, and spatter.
  • Preheat work piece with hand torch or heating furnace.
  • Position and clamp work pieces together or assemble them in jig or fixture.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Minimum three years experience as a certified pipe welder.
  • Experience with GTAW, GMAW, FCAW, and SMAW.
  • Applicant must pass a pre-employment pipe welding test.
