Overview
The Pipe Welder position in Big Lake, AK involves laying out, assembling, installing, and maintaining pipe systems and related equipment for various industrial applications. This non-rotational role requires a certified pipe welder with at least three years of experience.
Responsibilities
- Obtain specified electrode and insert it into the portable holder or thread consumable electrode wire through the portable welding gun.
- Connect cables from the welding unit to obtain specified amperage, voltage, slope, and pulse.
- Start power supply to produce electric current.
- Strike arc to generate heat for melting and depositing metal from the electrode to the work piece.
- Manually guide electrode or gun along weld line to form specified depth of fusion and bead.
- Weld in flat, horizontal, vertical, or overhead positions.
- Examine weld for bead size and other specifications.
- Apply filler rod manually to supply weld metal.
- Clean or degrease weld joint or work piece.
- Repair broken or cracked parts and fill holes.
- Prepare broken parts for welding by grooving or scarring surfaces.
- Chip off excess weld, slag, and spatter.
- Preheat work piece with hand torch or heating furnace.
- Position and clamp work pieces together or assemble them in jig or fixture.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
- Minimum three years experience as a certified pipe welder.
- Experience with GTAW, GMAW, FCAW, and SMAW.
- Applicant must pass a pre-employment pipe welding test.
