Overview
Virginia MetalFab is seeking a motivated and energetic individual to join their team as a Welder/Metal Fabricator Lead. The role involves fabricating and welding metal products while being part of a dynamic and friendly shop environment.
Responsibilities
- Study engineering drawings and blueprints to determine material requirements and task sequences.
- Read work orders to determine product specifications.
- Measure dimensions of completed products to verify conformance to specifications.
- Align and fit parts according to specifications using various tools.
- Position or tighten braces and clamps for welding or riveting.
- Move parts into position manually or with hoists.
- Weld parts to form complete units or subunits following blueprints.
- Set up and operate fabricating machines to form and assemble metal components.
- Inspect products to ensure proper assembly.
- Cut, clean, fit up, and tack-weld aluminum, stainless steel, and carbon steel parts.
- Lift or move materials using cranes or forklifts.
- Remove high spots and cut bevels using hand files and grinders.
- Smooth metal surfaces and fix taps, tubes, and valves.
- Design and construct templates and fixtures using hand tools.
- Hammer, chip, and grind workpieces to cut and straighten metal.
Requirements
- HS diploma or GED.
- Ability to wear various forms of PPE.
- Ability to lift/carry up to 100 lb.
- Ability to push/pull up to 100 lb.
- 6 - 12 months of related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Technical skills to set up and operate machinery and work from blueprints.
- Basic computer skills and ability to use MS Suite.
- Forklift operator certification.
- Effective oral communication skills.
- Ability to accept responsibility and account for actions.
- Ability to perform work accurately and thoroughly.
