Overview

The Diesel Fleet Mechanic Technician III is responsible for ensuring the safety, reliability, and cost-efficiency of fleet vehicles through preventive maintenance inspections and expert repairs. This role involves diagnosing malfunctions, performing repairs, and mentoring junior technicians to enhance fleet reliability and minimize downtime.

Responsibilities

  • Perform required inspections and preventive maintenance on vehicles and equipment.
  • Conduct FAI/CVI inspections on all fleet vehicles in accordance with legal and regulatory requirements.
  • Execute quality preventive maintenance inspections on all fleet vehicles and equipment.
  • Carry out maintenance repairs to maximize safety and reliability on fleet vehicles.
  • Perform preventive maintenance, diagnosis, and repair to refrigeration units.
  • Address Driver Vehicle Inspection Report write-ups in a timely manner.
  • Diagnose malfunctions and perform repairs to manufacturer specifications.
  • Document all work performed on work orders.
  • Mentor and teach Fleet Technician I and II.
  • May perform moderate supervisory roles when higher management is unavailable.
  • Conduct electrical meter testing and complete electrical repairs.
  • Handle welding projects as needed.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Current and valid driver's license (CDL preferred, not required).
  • Medium/Heavy Duty truck technical training.
  • 2-year school and 4 years of experience or 5 years of experience in fleet maintenance and repair.
  • Annual Inspector Certification.
  • Brake Inspector Certification.
  • ASE certifications in Automotive or Medium/Heavy Duty Trucks.
  • EPA section 608 and 609 HVAC & Refrigeration Certification.
  • Expert knowledge of vehicle systems and components.
  • Expert knowledge in diagnosis and repair of electrical and refrigeration systems.
  • Moderate knowledge in welding and cutting.
  • Moderate computer skills and knowledge.
  • Expert knowledge of DOT (FMCSA) regulations.
  • Moderate knowledge of OSHA and environmental regulations.
