Overview
The Diesel Fleet Mechanic Technician III is responsible for ensuring the safety, reliability, and cost-efficiency of fleet vehicles through preventive maintenance inspections and expert repairs. This role involves diagnosing malfunctions, performing repairs, and mentoring junior technicians to enhance fleet reliability and minimize downtime.
Responsibilities
- Perform required inspections and preventive maintenance on vehicles and equipment.
- Conduct FAI/CVI inspections on all fleet vehicles in accordance with legal and regulatory requirements.
- Execute quality preventive maintenance inspections on all fleet vehicles and equipment.
- Carry out maintenance repairs to maximize safety and reliability on fleet vehicles.
- Perform preventive maintenance, diagnosis, and repair to refrigeration units.
- Address Driver Vehicle Inspection Report write-ups in a timely manner.
- Diagnose malfunctions and perform repairs to manufacturer specifications.
- Document all work performed on work orders.
- Mentor and teach Fleet Technician I and II.
- May perform moderate supervisory roles when higher management is unavailable.
- Conduct electrical meter testing and complete electrical repairs.
- Handle welding projects as needed.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Current and valid driver's license (CDL preferred, not required).
- Medium/Heavy Duty truck technical training.
- 2-year school and 4 years of experience or 5 years of experience in fleet maintenance and repair.
- Annual Inspector Certification.
- Brake Inspector Certification.
- ASE certifications in Automotive or Medium/Heavy Duty Trucks.
- EPA section 608 and 609 HVAC & Refrigeration Certification.
- Expert knowledge of vehicle systems and components.
- Expert knowledge in diagnosis and repair of electrical and refrigeration systems.
- Moderate knowledge in welding and cutting.
- Moderate computer skills and knowledge.
- Expert knowledge of DOT (FMCSA) regulations.
- Moderate knowledge of OSHA and environmental regulations.
