Overview

The Utility Piping Specialist at Arizona State University's Tempe campus is responsible for the installation, repair, and maintenance of plumbing systems and utility piping systems. This role requires skilled craftsmanship and the ability to work with various tools and equipment in potentially hazardous environments.

Responsibilities

  • Install, repair, and maintain plumbing systems, including utility piping systems.
  • Locate, repair, and replace malfunctioning parts using hand and power tools.
  • Inspect mechanical system components and perform precision techniques in metalwork.
  • Work with drawings and specifications to determine work requirements.
  • Install and maintain steam supply and condensation return lines.
  • Install and maintain chilled water supply and return lines.
  • Install and repair domestic water lines and drain lines.
  • Install and maintain RO supply and return lines.
  • Use work order systems in response to maintenance requests.
  • Prioritize work based on critical needs assessment.
  • Assist other trades as needed.
  • Communicate clearly to perform essential functions.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma and three years of relevant experience, or equivalent combination of experience and training.
  • Must have four years of plumbing and/or mechanical-pipefitting systems experience, or completion of a four-year technical training program in plumbing.
  • Experience in studying plans, drawings, specifications, and work orders.
  • Knowledge of welding standards and mechanical operation of equipment.
  • Knowledge of tools, equipment, and materials common to plumbing and welding trades.
  • Knowledge of applicable codes and work order systems.

Additional Information

  • Work schedule is Monday – Friday 6:30am – 3:00pm for training with the possibility of 4-10's.
  • Position may require working at other campus locations based on program need.
  • Must possess a valid Arizona driver's license and maintain an acceptable driving record.
  • Position requires pre-employment physical examination and may require working a rotating on-call/stand-by schedule.
