Overview

Newport News Shipbuilding is seeking 2026 high school seniors or graduates for the position of Welder/Structure Trainee or Certified. This role offers a $500 sign-on bonus and relocation assistance for eligible candidates, with opportunities for training and career growth in a leading shipbuilding company.

Responsibilities

• Complete a 3-week unpaid training program in welding or present relevant certifications.
• Perform structural and pipe welds throughout all phases of ship construction.
• Use various welding processes including SMAW, FCAW, GMAW, and GTAW.
• Meet stringent nondestructive testing requirements.
• Work in various weather conditions and at extreme heights.
• Adapt to working in small, confined spaces.

Requirements

• Must be a 2026 high school senior or graduate.
• Must be willing to undergo a background investigation and drug screen.
• Must be able to pass a physical agility test.
• Must be able to lift at least 40 pounds.
• Must be clean shaven to wear a respirator.
• High school graduate or equivalent preferred.
