Overview

As a Decanter Mechanic at Alfa Laval, you will be an integral member of the team responsible for the repair and reconditioning of machines in a Service Centre. This role involves disassembling, inspecting, repairing, and assembling products to meet specification standards, contributing to the organization's success.

Responsibilities

  • Perform equipment receipt, uncrate, clean, strip and tear down units.
  • Inspect, repair, service, test and package following the companies policies, procedures, quality standards and Safety guidelines.
  • Work from drawings, parts lists, blueprints, charts, tables and graphs to evaluate and assist in estimating repair costs, time and materials needed.
  • Set up and operate test stands and related equipment as required.
  • Set up and balance rotating equipment using approved balancing methods.
  • Record written test results on appropriate test documents.
  • Follow the quality plan per job to repair product.
  • Diagnose, check and correct mechanical functions through adjustments.
  • Move material inside shop as needed.
  • Communicate the need for replenishment of supplies and tools to supervision.
  • Keep work area and surrounding equipment clean and organized.
  • Paint, pack, crate, and document shipment of units, parts and materials.
  • Validate equipment skills and evaluate repair/service requirements.
  • Share knowledge and support in competence development.
  • Close competence gaps by training/coaching and running SOP audit dialogues.
  • Support and participate in problem solving and knowledge sharing.
  • Support team members with immediate problem solving when needed.
  • May perform some field service work from time to time.

Requirements

  • High School degree or Equivalent.
  • Typically 8+ years manual repair/workshop/manufacturing experience.
  • Experience with vibration analyzing/balancing equipment is a plus.
  • Ability to understand complicated blue prints, drawings, sketches and work instructions.
  • Ability to use micrometers and gauges in both English and Metric measures.
  • Good mechanical aptitude.
  • Ability to diagnose mechanical problems.
  • Knowledge of welding.
  • Experience operating fork lift trucks, hand pallet jacks and overhead cranes.
  • Basic computer knowledge.
