Overview
The Maintenance Worker I position involves repairing and maintaining street infrastructure and ensuring safety during repair work. The City of Irving's Transportation Department is dedicated to maintaining safe streets and traffic systems for its diverse community.
Responsibilities
- Repair and maintain street infrastructure.
- Set up safety and traffic control systems for repair work.
- Clean, service, and maintain assigned tools, machinery, equipment, and vehicles.
- Use basic equipment to perform repairs, such as jackhammers, rakes, and shovels.
- Serve as a flagger to direct traffic around work zones.
- Remove refuse and debris from rights-of-way, medians, and embankments.
Requirements
- Six months of related experience.
- Ability to read and write at a level necessary for successful job performance.
- Basic computer skills.
- Valid Class C Texas driver’s license.
- Possess or be able to obtain a valid Class A Texas Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) within six months.

- Normal hours are Monday through Friday 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., with some after-hours, weekends, and holidays.
