Responsibilities

  • Manually position pole assembly for welding.
  • Read and interpret drawings and specifications for welding.
  • Adjust welding machines to achieve desired results.
  • Use oxy-fuel torch to pre-heat parts for welding.
  • Weld small components or assemblies using GMAC or FCAW processes.
  • Tack weld and finish weld to required production levels.
  • Wear protective equipment while working.
  • Work in confined areas on the small pole assembly line.
  • Clean welded areas using various tools.
  • Drill holes on pole assembly as required by specifications.
  • Visually inspect work for compliance with drawings and specifications.
  • Transport and move material using overhead cranes.
  • Measure weld size using a weld gauge.
  • Read and interpret work orders and production schedules.
  • Correct labor reporting in MES system.
  • Assist fitter in assembling pole assembly when needed.
  • Use cutting torches for cutting steel.
  • Operate assembly line cart system and band saw for cutting tubular shafts.
  • Maintain a clean work area.
  • Produce quality work in a timely manner.
  • Work safely according to OSHA standards.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent preferred.
  • AWS Certification required for specific welding operations.
  • Must have passed Welder B certification and be AWS certified in MIG welding.
  • Basic shop mathematical aptitude.
  • Proficient in reading complex prints and specifications.
  • Ability to communicate verbally in English.
  • Adequate dexterity and stamina for production.
  • Knowledge of safety issues related to operations.
  • Required PPE includes safety glasses, steel-toe boots, and hearing protection.
  • Must be able to stand 100% of scheduled shift.
  • Ability to lift, push, and drag heavy materials up to 50 pounds.
  • Must be capable of bending, stooping, crawling, and occasional climbing.
