Overview

Bechtel is seeking a Lead Field Welding Engineer to join their Field Engineering team for a large gas-fired power generation project in Pecos, Texas. The role involves leading welding programs and ensuring compliance with engineering specifications and standards.

Responsibilities

  • Implement and maintain Bechtel Field Welding program.
  • Provide specialized welding engineering support for construction.
  • Manage the pre- and post-weld heat treatment program.
  • Assist in managing the rod room and ensure compliance with requirements.
  • Schedule and coordinate NDE with construction and subcontractors.
  • Manage and monitor the welding test lab for quality welder testing.
  • Review and update weld documents to ensure program credibility.
  • Maintain welder qualifications and stamps.
  • Perform field inspections of welding work and advise on quality issues.
  • Implement welding inspection tracking utilizing TEAMworks/WITS applications.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree (or international equivalent) and 5-8 years of relevant experience, or 9-12 years of relevant work experience.
  • NDE Certifications including VT, PT, MT, and RT.
  • Knowledge of AWS, API, NFPA, AWWA, ASTM, and ASNT codes, specifications, and standards.
  • Heavy industrial direct hire construction experience.
  • Advanced knowledge and/or certifications in SMAW, GTAW, GMAW, FCAW.
  • Understanding of Preheat/Post weld heat treatment of equipment and consumables.
  • Knowledge of engineering and construction methods.
  • Ability to motivate team members effectively in a collaborative environment.
  • Ability to problem-solve in high-pressure situations.
  • Experience on HRSG/Power Boiler construction projects.
  • Strong technical background in welding applications and non-destructive examination.
  • Understanding of Bechtel work processes.
  • Advanced knowledge of Piping Design Drawings/Specifications and Teamwork’s/WITS.
  • Certifiable by written examination to Bechtel's NDE Level II Visual and Radiographic Examination.
  • Knowledge of Bechtel's SWPP Welding Program and related documentation.
  • Familiarity with Bechtel Standard Applications (BSAPs).
