Overview
The Pipefitter position is located in the Architect of the Capitol, specifically within the Facility Operations Division, Maintenance Branch, Plumbing Section. The role involves performing troubleshooting, repairing, and installing plumbing systems in historic buildings on Capitol Hill.
Responsibilities
- Serve as a Journeyman level Pipefitter and/or Plumber.
- Troubleshoot, repair, and install plumbing systems and components.
- Utilize the Building Automation System to troubleshoot and adjust systems.
- Perform maintenance and repair on steam, chilled water, domestic water, and heating systems.
- Install and maintain life safety sprinkler systems in multi-story buildings.
- Ensure design and code compliance during installation and inspection.
- Perform brazing, soldering, and other hot work processes.
- Manage hazardous and non-hazardous waste in compliance with regulations.
- Create work orders and document labor hours using Web TMA.
- Utilize Mobile TMA to expedite procurement of replacement parts.
Requirements
- Hold a current 5G Pipe Welder Certification.
- Possession of a class 6G Certification is highly desirable.
- Required to obtain a Backflow Preventer certification.
- Knowledge of hazardous waste management requirements.

- This is an Essential-Employee Position requiring work during emergencies and inclement weather.
