Overview

The Smithsonian Institution is the world's largest museum, education, and research complex, responsible for all Smithsonian facilities, many of which are historic and visited by millions. The Pipefitter will perform various duties under the supervision of the Crafts Shop Supervisor, focusing on maintenance and installation of utility distribution systems.

Responsibilities

  • Perform preventative maintenance, repairs, and installations for utility distribution systems.
  • Install, troubleshoot, modify, and repair sewage, water, oil, pneumatic, and gas distribution systems.
  • Install equipment such as steam heating, steam generation, and hydraulic systems.
  • Use materials like aluminum, copper, iron, nylon, lead, vinyl, PVC, and rubber.
  • Operate power and hand tools used in pipefitting and drainage cleaning systems.
