Overview

The Welder position at Orion involves providing yard maintenance support through welding, cutting, grinding, and clean-up tasks. The role emphasizes safety, quality, delivery, and teamwork, with a strong foundation in integrity.

Responsibilities

  • Work as assigned by the Welding Shop Foreman to complete marine yard support projects.
  • Gather information on the scope of work and obtain necessary permits before starting welding projects.
  • Cut, weld, chip, and grind metal as required by projects.
  • Utilize oxygen-acetylene cutting torch and related equipment for cutting metal.
  • Weld together pieces of sheet metal after individual sheet piles are driven into place.
  • Stick rod weld in all positions to complete jobs.
  • Rig cable for lifting and moving objects.
  • Handle placement of steel plates and sheet piles with equipment.
  • Operate saws, presses, drills, and grinders to fabricate parts for equipment repair.
  • Inspect and make minor repairs to welding equipment and notify Foreman of needed parts.
  • Pick up materials and supplies for project completion.
  • Collaborate closely with various team members to ensure safe and efficient project completion.
  • Participate in safety and environmental initiatives to comply with regulations.

Requirements

  • Minimum of two years welding experience or equivalent combination of experience and training.
  • Good knowledge of welding practices and materials.
  • Understanding of physical characteristics of various metals used in marine construction.
  • Ability to operate various types of marine equipment and devices.
  • Knowledge of safe work practices in a marine environment.
  • Capable of passing standard welding tests demonstrating proficiency.
  • Skill in stick rod welding in all positions and using acetylene and arc welding equipment.
  • Effective verbal communication skills and ability to keep records of time and materials.

Additional Information

  • Must be able to wear and utilize appropriate personal protective equipment.
  • Qualified to drive regular passenger vehicles to job sites.
  • Capable of performing physical tasks such as lifting up to 50 lbs and working in confined spaces.
