Overview
The Department of Facilities Management & Development at SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University is seeking a full-time Maintenance Assistant, Plumber & Steamfitter. This role involves performing semiskilled work in the installation, alteration, and repair of pipes, fittings, and fixtures for various systems.
Responsibilities
- Perform semiskilled repair, alteration, and installation activities in plumbing and steamfitting.
- Repair and maintain piping systems by cutting, bending, threading, and assembling pipe.
- Solder and caulk leaks and broken pipes.
- Open clogged drains using plumber’s snake or vacuum plunger.
- Replace worn washers or other parts in leaky valves or taps.
- Cut passage holes in walls and floors for pipe installation.
- Cover steam lines with thermal insulation.
- Repair and regulate water mixers, thermostats, and other fixtures.
- Repair steam equipment such as steam tables and dishwashing machines.
- Install pipes, fittings, and fixtures according to provided layout and materials.
Requirements
- Two years of full-time experience in plumbing and/or steamfitting work under supervision.
- Completion of a two-year technical school course in plumbing and/or steamfitting.
- An equivalent combination of experience and training in plumbing or steamfitting.
- Valid New York State driver's license when required to operate motor vehicles.
