Overview
The Welder - Fabricator position is responsible for specialized welding and fabricating duties related to mobile vehicle and equipment repair and maintenance for City departments. This role requires proficiency in multiple welding processes and the ability to operate various City equipment while adhering to safety standards.
Responsibilities
- Perform specialized welding and fabricating duties related to mobile vehicle and equipment repair.
- Complete job-shop welding and fabrication assignments for City departments.
- Proficiently use multiple welding processes including SMAW, MIG, TIG, FCAW, hard facing, oxygen/acetylene welding, and brazing.
- Operate equipment for plasma cutting, oxygen/acetylene cutting, tempering, and pipe bending.
- Develop time and material estimates for custom fabrication and modifications.
- Interpret welding symbols and complete tasks according to blueprint specifications.
- Ensure work complies with current manufacturing practices and industry codes.
- Use independent judgment in selecting repair methods and materials.
- Wear specialized safety equipment and follow safety protocols.
Requirements
- 3 - 5 years of journey-level experience in fabrication and welding processes.
- Ability to provide own hand tools and rollaway box.
- Must pass a medical evaluation to wear a tight-fitting respirator.
- Obtain AWS welding certification on AWS 3G and 4G within the first year of employment.
- Subject to pre-employment drug and alcohol testing.

- Current opening is for 3rd shift, with potential for future vacancies on other shifts.
- Shift differential and shift assignment incentive pay are available.
- Supervised by a Shop Foreman or Shop Supervisor.
