Job Description

Overview

The Construction Mechanic is responsible for maintaining and servicing fleet heavy equipment and vehicles, ensuring safety and functionality through routine checks and repairs.

Responsibilities

  • Be knowledgeable of the hazards and safety requirements of the job, and utilize required personal protective equipment.
  • Observe mechanical devices in operation and listen to their sounds to locate causes of trouble.
  • Examine critical parts and operating components of heavy equipment for possible wear and tear, defects, or other damage.
  • Perform routine maintenance checks on company owned and/or leased vehicles and equipment to ensure safety and longevity.
  • Repair, replace, clean, and lubricate vehicle/equipment parts as necessary.
  • Examine and repair hydraulic components for fluid leaks, ruptured hoses, or worn gaskets.
  • Use hand-held computers or other diagnostic devices to diagnose components in need of adjustment or repair.
  • Use jacks, cranes, and various hand-held tools to dismantle and reassemble parts.
  • May be required to rebuild or replace engines, repair hydraulic fluid pumps, and correct electrical problems.
  • Start devices to test their performance.
  • Pressure wash equipment as necessary.
  • Operate various types of light and heavy equipment and over the road trucks for maneuvering into service and repair locations.
  • Request spare parts as needed.
  • Travel to job site to make repairs to heavy equipment as necessary.
  • Maintain a high level of workplace housekeeping.
  • Ensure a high level of customer satisfaction.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Must have a mechanical aptitude.
  • Working knowledge of diesel engine repair.
  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
  • Ability to locate, read, understand and follow instructions outlined in SDS material safety data sheets.
  • Ability to write simple correspondence.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in both written and verbal format.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks in accordance to urgency.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, verbal, or diagram form.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Must be available to work overtime as required.
  • Cooperative, punctual, and detail oriented.
  • Must be able to utilize electronic devices such as a smart phone to send and receive email and communicate from job site locations to corporate office and supervision.
  • Must be able to work safely and follow all instructions related to Company policies and regulatory agencies.
  • Maintains a safe work environment and ensures all established Company safety rules, procedures, policies, DOT, OSHA and MSHA regulations are followed.
  • Aerial Lift Operator Training Certification preferred.
