Overview

Metalforms is a leading provider of heat transfer solutions, committed to delivering value through design, fabrication, testing, and maintenance of heat exchangers and related process equipment. The Master Welder plays a critical role in ensuring high-quality welds across various materials and configurations, contributing to the fabrication of high-specification equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Perform complex welding tasks on materials including P1, P8, P10H, and nickel alloys.
  • Execute high-quality welds for root passes, structural joints, back gouging, and clean-up of back gouge roots.
  • Fabricate pressure-retaining equipment with full compliance to customer and code requirements.
  • Perform tube-to-tube and tube-to-tube sheet joints, including ASME QW-193-type welds.
  • Follow and interpret weld procedures (WPS) and detailed engineering drawings to complete jobs accurately.
  • Support fabrication of both new builds and repair/modification projects.
  • Maintain a high standard of safety, cleanliness, and organization in the work area.
  • Communicate effectively with quality control and engineering teams to ensure all work is code-compliant and meets customer requirements.

Requirements

  • Must be certified and capable of passing the 6G GTAW root with SMAW (stick) fill and cap pipe test.
  • Must pass the 5/8" diameter tube-to-tube weld test.
  • Must pass the QW-193 tube-to-tubesheet test.
  • Must pass the 3G stick test with back weld, back gouge root, and sub-arc coupon.
  • Proficient in interpreting blueprints, isometrics, and fabrication drawings.
  • Knowledge of ASME codes and standards.
  • Strong attention to detail, ability to self-inspect, and pride in craftsmanship.
  • Flexible and able to perform a variety of welding tasks based on project needs.
  • Familiarity with pressure vessel fabrication is preferred.
  • Experience in a job-shop or custom manufacturing setting is preferred.
  • Ability to work independently or as part of a team to meet tight deadlines.
  • Minimum 10 years of welding experience in a heavy fabrication or manufacturing environment.
