Job Description

Overview

The Building Mechanic is responsible for performing routine and extensive preventative maintenance and repair procedures on buildings, mechanical equipment, and utility systems. This position is part of the Campus Facilities team at Midwestern University and operates on a Tuesday to Saturday schedule from 3 pm to 11:30 pm.

Responsibilities

  • Perform minor and major repair of all buildings and equipment under supervision.
  • Conduct preventive maintenance on building mechanical equipment and inspect various components.
  • Complete maintenance checklists and maintain records of procedures.
  • Participate in developing mechanical maintenance plans.
  • Clean and inspect boilers and treat water with chemicals.
  • Operate computers that control mechanical equipment and utility systems.
  • Repair refrigeration equipment.
  • Assemble and install valves, pipe fittings, and pipes.
  • Install and repair plumbing fixtures.
  • Repair plumbing by replacing washers, mending pipes, and clearing drains.
  • Monitor and adjust building temperatures as necessary.
  • Respond to emergency maintenance requests.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED is required.
  • EPA Universal Certification license is strongly desired.
  • Certification from a technical school or Associates degree in a related field is desired.
  • 1 - 2 years of related experience with HVAC equipment is required.
  • Must have a valid driver's license.
  • Computer proficiency in MS Office, Word, and Excel is desired.
  • Intermediate language skills to read, write, and speak effectively.
  • Intermediate reasoning ability to apply common sense understanding.
