Overview

Metra is one of the largest commuter rail systems in North America, providing safe and efficient service across several counties in Northeastern Illinois. The B&B Mechanic Assistant plays a crucial role in the construction and maintenance of various infrastructure to ensure the safe operation of trains.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure proper construction and maintenance of culverts, sanitary sewers, storm sewers, and water lines.
  • Maintain fences, retaining walls, buildings, station platforms, and highway grade crossings.
  • Perform general masonry and carpentry work.
  • Work under varying environmental conditions including heat, cold, rain, and snow.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned to meet organizational needs.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or General Educational Development (GED) certificate.
  • Construction/Maintenance experience required.
  • Ability to lift, carry, and move equipment and materials weighing up to 60-70 pounds.
  • Valid driver's license required.
  • Willingness to travel within Metra’s 6-county region.

Additional Information

  • This is a Union position.
  • Starting pay rates may vary based on entry rates in the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA).
