Overview
The Structure Maintainer E (Plumber) position involves performing plumbing work for MTA New York City Transit’s subway and related structures under general supervision. The role requires passing a Civil Service Exam for permanent status and includes various responsibilities related to plumbing maintenance and repair.
Responsibilities
- Perform plumbing work in subway, surface, and elevated structures.
- Install, maintain, and repair plumbing fixtures in toilets, sink rooms, and heating systems.
- Clean, test, dismantle, install, and repair pipes, fixtures, vents, and hot water heaters.
- Keep records and perform other structural work, including incidental painting.
- Serve as a flagger and respond to signals on the tracks.
- Load, unload, and drive vans and trucks.
- Perform related work as necessary.
Requirements
- Graduation from a four-year full-time apprenticeship program in plumbing.
- Four years of full-time journey-level experience as a plumber.
- Two years of journey-level experience plus two years as a helper or completion of a trade school.
- Graduation from a vocational high school with a major in plumbing.
- An Associate degree or higher in plumbing or a related field from an accredited institution.
- Must possess a valid Class A or Class B Commercial Driver License or a Motor Vehicle Driver License with a Learner Permit for a Class B CDL.
