Overview

The Structural Welder is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of welding machines to join or connect various types of metal parts for metal structures. Delta Constructors provides comprehensive construction, maintenance, and project management services across North America, specializing in industries such as oil and gas, mining, renewable energy, and infrastructure.

Responsibilities

  • Analyzes blueprints and structural drawings.
  • Adheres to applicable welding methods in completion of structural fabrications.
  • Utilizes manual and mechanical processes to weld in various positions.
  • Calibrates welding tools and equipment according to welding procedure specifications.
  • Cleans and prepares metal work pieces using scrapers, chemical solutions, and grinders to ensure a smooth and contaminant-free surface.
  • Cuts, repairs, and assembles building components to form complete structures.
  • Inspects and evaluates welds to ensure they are free of defect and adhere to specifications.
  • Conducts post-welding activities such as grinding, cleaning, and polishing of work pieces.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Work Experience: Two (2) years’ experience in oil & gas or energy industries preferred.
  • License/Certifications: Current and valid driver’s license.
  • Take and pass a pre-employment structural welding test (6", .432" 6g Dual Shield / FCAW) with backing ring.
  • Ability to consistently pass and perform acceptable NDE D1.1 AWS field weld inspection and maintain a project weld reject rate of >2% for fillet or full penetration welds in all positions.
  • Knowledge of industrial structural welding methods and techniques.
  • Knowledge of proper use of equipment such as welder torch, electrode holder, drill press, gas welding and welding electrode.
  • Knowledge of Hazardous Materials and Safety Regulations and industry practices related to equipment use and operation.
  • Knowledge and experience in oilfield operations preferred.
  • Ability to conduct appropriate tests to identify and correct faults in framework of structure.
  • Ability to follow instructions and communicate clearly.

Additional Information

  • Work Location: Anchorage, Alaska.
  • The physical demands include lifting and/or moving up to 50 pounds.
  • The work environment is usually loud and may require use of ear plugs.
  • Work condition is outside environment (job site/field site) that may have inclement weather conditions.
  • The employee will be required to work and stay on site during the work rotation.
