Overview

The Marine Welder position at HII involves supporting fleet modernization through various welding processes and mechanical techniques on active class surface ships, submarines, and shore-based facilities. HII is a trusted partner to military customers, providing advanced technologies for mission readiness and maintaining a high state of readiness for the U.S. Navy.

Responsibilities

• Display quality, integrity, safety, respect, engagement, and performance consistent with company values.
• Support trades team by working on active class surface ships for fleet modernization.
• Perform work in accordance with established quality and safety procedures.
• Execute a variety of tasks related to shipboard maintenance to meet contract standards.
• Work from blueprints, engineering sketches, charts, or work orders.
• Install, operate, maintain, repair, and modify structural and piping elements and equipment.
• Lay out and mark points and lines on parts or subassemblies using various tools.
• Cut, fit, assemble, and position pieces to be welded using hand and powered tools.
• Troubleshoot and diagnose malfunctions to eliminate problems efficiently.
• Participate in special projects as required.
• Apply understanding of welding processes to join, surface, fabricate, or repair parts.
• Develop and use technical documents including work packages and reports.
• Inspect completed work for conformance to specifications.
• Maintain effective customer communications and relations.
• Provide guidance and work leadership to less-experienced welders.

Requirements

• High School education, Trade School or equivalent, and 8 years of related experience.
• Ability to demonstrate welding ability through qualification testing.
• Must be able to obtain medical clearance to wear a half-face respirator.
• Welding experience with stick welding (SMAW) for Carbon and Stainless Steel.
• Welding experience with gas metal arc welding (GMAW) for Aluminum.
• Strong knowledge of reading and interpreting drawings and technical manuals.
• Capability to use various measuring instruments.
• Knowledge of quality control steps and procedures.
• Experience working in a team environment.
• Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD secret security clearance.
• Ability to obtain base access credentials within 60 days of start date.
• Must provide hand tools per trades designation.

Additional Information

• Required travel of 51 - 75% to shipyards and military bases.
• Per Diem provided based on location when on travel.
• Travel and lodging expenses covered by the company.
