Overview
Capitol Engineering is hiring a Welder / Fitter 1 for their Phoenix fabrication shop. This hands-on production role involves MIG and Flux-Core welding, material fit-up, and assembly of various custom products including structural steel and specialty fabrications.
Responsibilities
- Perform GMAW (MIG) and FCAW (Flux-Core) welding on assigned workpieces according to WPS and quality standards.
- Weld on various product types following work order instructions.
- Set up welding equipment and adjust parameters per WPS requirements.
- Perform tack welding to secure components before final welding.
- Position and secure components for structural assemblies and custom fabrications.
- Use measuring and layout tools to verify component dimensions and alignment.
- Prep weld joints using grinders and other tools while preventing contamination.
- Report fit-up discrepancies to the Shop Lead.
- Verify joint cleanliness and WPS parameters before welding.
- Perform visual self-inspection of completed welds against acceptance criteria.
- Report weld defects or quality concerns to the Shop Lead.
- Operate welding equipment and perform pre-use checks.
- Wear required PPE and follow safety protocols.
- Maintain a clean and safe work station.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- 3-5 years of production welding and/or fabrication experience.
- Strength in welding or fitting, with active qualifications in GMAW or demonstrated fit-up ability.
- Ability to read and follow work orders and WPS documentation.
- Willingness to develop complementary skills with company support.
- Reliable attendance and strong work ethic.
Additional Information
- Standard Monday through Friday schedule during regular facility operating hours.
- Occasional overtime may be required.
- This is an on-site position.
