Overview

Capitol Engineering is hiring a Welder / Fitter 1 for their Phoenix fabrication shop. This hands-on production role involves MIG and Flux-Core welding, material fit-up, and assembly of various custom products including structural steel and specialty fabrications.

Responsibilities

• Perform GMAW (MIG) and FCAW (Flux-Core) welding on assigned workpieces according to WPS and quality standards.
• Weld on various product types following work order instructions.
• Set up welding equipment and adjust parameters per WPS requirements.
• Perform tack welding to secure components before final welding.
• Position and secure components for structural assemblies and custom fabrications.
• Use measuring and layout tools to verify component dimensions and alignment.
• Prep weld joints using grinders and other tools while preventing contamination.
• Report fit-up discrepancies to the Shop Lead.
• Verify joint cleanliness and WPS parameters before welding.
• Perform visual self-inspection of completed welds against acceptance criteria.
• Report weld defects or quality concerns to the Shop Lead.
• Operate welding equipment and perform pre-use checks.
• Wear required PPE and follow safety protocols.
• Maintain a clean and safe work station.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• 3-5 years of production welding and/or fabrication experience.
• Strength in welding or fitting, with active qualifications in GMAW or demonstrated fit-up ability.
• Ability to read and follow work orders and WPS documentation.
• Willingness to develop complementary skills with company support.
• Reliable attendance and strong work ethic.

Additional Information

• Standard Monday through Friday schedule during regular facility operating hours.
• Occasional overtime may be required.
• This is an on-site position.
