Overview

This vacancy is for a WG-3703-10 Welder located in the Department of Homeland Security, U.S. Coast Guard, INDUSTRIAL PRODUCTION FACILITY PORTSMOUTH in PORTSMOUTH, Virginia. The selectee will be responsible for welding various components of ships and other vessels, ensuring safety and quality standards are maintained.

Responsibilities

  • Weld various components of ships including shell, engine parts, framing, and tanks.
  • Remove and replace interferences in way of welds.
  • Fit brackets, machinery foundations, and minor structural braces.
  • Take fire and safety precautions while welding.
  • Adjust welding controls to maintain qualified procedures.
  • Apply knowledge of manual welding processes and techniques.
  • Read blueprints, sketches, and online drawings for component layout.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of welding standards and processes.
  • Experience with various metals and alloys including steel, aluminum, and titanium.
  • Ability to perform difficult welds using multiple welding methods.
