Overview

This position is located in the Department of Homeland Security, US Coast Guard, Industrial Department, Structural Group in Baltimore, MD. The role involves performing journeyman ship fitting and fabricating tasks for the construction, repair, maintenance, overhaul, and conversion of various marine craft and vessels.

Responsibilities

• Identify different types of metals and alloys and determine thickness and proper grade.
• Develop templates, layout, and fabricate sub assemblies including shell plates, frames, bulkheads, deck beams, superstructures, foundations, ladders, pipe rails, and rudders.
• Use a plasma arc and oxy-acetylene torch for burning, flushing, and heating material.
• Use lifting gear to move material or regulate it on the job.
• Perform journeyman tack-welding tasks in the 3F and 4F positions using various welding equipment.

Requirements

• Journeyman-level experience in ship fitting and welding.
• Ability to identify and work with different metals and alloys.
• Experience with shielded metal arc welding (SMAW), flux core arc welding (FCAW), and gas metal arc welding (GMAW).
• Mandatory training required which must be successfully completed.
