Job Description

Overview

The Pipefitter position is located at the Veterans Administration (VA) Medical Center in Beckley, West Virginia. The role involves installing, modifying, maintaining, and repairing high-temperature water and medium to high pressure piping systems and equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Install, modify, and repair medium to high pressure piping systems and equipment including steam heating and hydraulic systems.
  • Plan and complete the routing and placement of systems leading to equipment.
  • Join, seal, and test systems and equipment for proper pressure and leak-free joints.
  • Operate, repair, maintain, and document the reverse osmosis (R.O) system.
  • Implement and update the Engineering Service Automated Engineering Management System/Medical Equipment Reporting System.
  • Install, maintain, and repair internal and external medical gas lines.
  • Perform data entry and understand the operation of terminals and appropriate software.
  • Weld joints and fittings using MIG, TIG, or electric arc welders.
  • Document all required information related to the medical gas system.
  • Attend training and certification in asbestos removal and backflow device testing.
  • Use shop mathematics to determine the size and type of materials for projects.
  • Make tests and adjustments to systems and equipment for proper operations.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of plumbing systems and equipment.
  • Ability to perform physical tasks including lifting up to 50 pounds.
  • Dexterity and coordination for precise installation and repair.
  • Training and certification in asbestos removal and backflow device testing.
  • Experience with welding and piping.

Additional Information

  • Work Schedule: 8:00am - 4:30pm, Monday - Friday.
  • Physical requirements include working from ladders and in confined spaces.
  • Working conditions may involve exposure to unpleasant odors and physical injuries.
