Overview

Capitol Engineering is an established and expanding custom fabrication company delivering high quality engineered & fabricated steel products to various industries. They are seeking an experienced Fitter/Welder III for their Phoenix fabrication shop, responsible for performing complex, high-quality welds and serving as a mentor to less experienced staff.

Responsibilities

  • Perform GMAW, FCAW, SMAW, and GTAW welding in all positions on various products and materials.
  • Handle complex and critical weld assignments with consistent quality and compliance.
  • Weld on carbon steel, stainless steel, aluminum, and AR plate, selecting appropriate filler metals and procedures.
  • Verify pre-weld conditions before each assignment.
  • Perform advanced fit-up and layout on large assemblies using blueprints.
  • Establish datums and verify dimensional accuracy across assemblies.
  • Identify and resolve fit-up issues and escalate conflicts when necessary.
  • Read and interpret engineering blueprints and extract necessary information for assignments.
  • Apply knowledge of weldability and material-specific requirements.
  • Provide technical guidance to less experienced welders and fitters.
  • Serve as a reference for welding procedures and quality questions.
  • Perform self-inspection of completed work and support quality inspections.
  • Lead by example in safety and housekeeping practices.
  • Operate welding equipment and maintain work areas to high standards.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent; vocational welding certification or technical degree preferred.
  • 8+ years of production welding and fabrication experience in a custom fabrication environment.
  • Full-position welder performance qualifications in GMAW, FCAW, SMAW, and GTAW.
  • Demonstrated ability to weld on various materials including carbon steel and aluminum.
  • Ability to perform advanced structural fit-up and layout.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering blueprints and fabrication drawings.
  • Demonstrated ability to train and develop less-experienced welders.

Additional Information

  • Standard Monday through Friday schedule during regular facility operating hours.
  • Occasional overtime may be required.
  • This is an on-site position.
