Overview

Capitol Engineering is an established and expanding custom fabrication company delivering high quality engineered and fabricated steel products to various industries. They are currently seeking a Fitter/Welder I for their Phoenix fabrication shop, looking for experienced individuals with a keen eye for detail and strong analytical skills.

Responsibilities

  • Perform GMAW (MIG) and FCAW (Flux-Core) welding on assigned workpieces according to Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS) and company quality standards.
  • Weld on various product types including structural components, tank sections, and custom fabrications following work order instructions.
  • Set up welding equipment and adjust parameters per WPS requirements for each material and joint configuration.
  • Position and secure components for structural assemblies and custom fabrications according to work orders and shop sketches.
  • Use measuring and layout tools to verify component dimensions and alignment before tacking.
  • Prep weld joints using grinders and other tools while applying contamination-prevention practices.
  • Verify joint cleanliness and WPS parameters before beginning each weld assignment.
  • Perform visual self-inspection of completed welds against acceptance criteria before releasing work.
  • Operate welding equipment and perform pre-use checks each shift, reporting issues promptly.
  • Wear required PPE and follow facility safety protocols at all times.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work station throughout the shift.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned in support of production operations.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • 3-5 years of production welding and/or fabrication experience across multiple product types.
  • Strength in welding or fitting, with an active welder performance qualification using GMAW or demonstrated fit-up ability.
  • Ability to read and follow work orders, shop sketches, and WPS documentation.
  • Willingness to develop complementary skills with company support.
  • Reliable attendance, strong work ethic, and commitment to producing quality work safely.

Additional Information

  • Standard Monday through Friday schedule during regular facility operating hours.
  • Occasional overtime may be required to meet production demands or project deadlines.
  • This is an on-site position; remote work is not applicable.
