Overview
The Welder performs skilled welding and metal fabrication work in support of maintenance, repair, and capital projects throughout Holy Cross Health's campus and FSED facilities, ensuring compliance with safety standards and fire codes.
Responsibilities
- Perform MIG, TIG, and stick welding on carbon steel, stainless steel, and aluminum components.
- Fabricate custom brackets, frames, supports, and metal components from drawings or specifications.
- Perform plasma cutting, grinding, and metal finishing operations.
- Conduct structural repairs on equipment, carts, beds, and building infrastructure.
- Support pipefitting team with welded piping joints on steam, water, and utility systems.
- Respond to urgent repair needs requiring metal fabrication or on-site welding.
- Maintain hot work permit compliance per TJC Environment of Care and NFPA 51B requirements.
- Ensure work area is secured with appropriate fire watch protocols.
- Complete all welding work orders in CMMS with accurate documentation.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED required; completion of welding program or apprenticeship preferred.
- 3+ years welding experience in commercial, industrial, or healthcare facilities.
- AWS Certified Welder (SMAW/MIG/TIG) preferred; OSHA 10 required.
- Proficiency in MIG, TIG, and SMAW welding.
- Ability to read blueprints and schematics.

Additional Information
- Full-time position with day shift.
- On-call availability for urgent structural or piping repairs.
- Ability to lift up to 75 lbs and perform overhead welding.
- Exposure to extreme heat, sparks, fumes, and UV radiation — full PPE required at all times.
- Work in confined spaces, elevated platforms, and outdoor environments.
