Overview

The Manager of Welding Technology at Acoustical Sheetmetal Company (ASC) is responsible for the strategic leadership and continuous improvement of welding technologies and processes across manufacturing operations. This role combines extensive welding expertise with leadership to enhance product quality and operational efficiency while ensuring compliance with industry standards.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute ASC's welding technology strategy to support business growth and operational excellence.
  • Establish, standardize, and maintain welding procedures and best practices across all ASC facilities.
  • Serve as the primary technical authority for welding processes and code compliance.
  • Lead the development and maintenance of Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS) and Procedure Qualification Records (PQR).
  • Ensure compliance with applicable AWS, ASME, customer, and internal quality requirements.
  • Partner with Quality, Engineering, Production, and Safety teams to resolve welding-related challenges.
  • Analyze welding performance metrics to identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Lead implementation of welding automation and process optimization initiatives.
  • Evaluate and recommend new welding equipment and technologies.
  • Support new product development with welding design guidance.
  • Manage welding training and workforce development programs.
  • Mentor supervisors and production personnel on welding technologies.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives focused on quality and cost reduction.
  • Maintain relationships with equipment suppliers and industry partners.
  • Develop and manage department budgets related to welding technology.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Welding Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Technology, or a related technical field preferred.
  • Minimum of seven years of progressive welding experience within manufacturing or heavy industrial environments.
  • Proven experience leading welding technology and process improvement initiatives.
  • Extensive knowledge of welding processes including MIG, TIG, FCAW, GMAW, and GTAW.
  • Strong knowledge of AWS codes and welding procedure qualification requirements.
  • Experience developing and managing WPS, PQR, and welding qualification programs.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience managing cross-functional projects.
  • Strong analytical, project management, and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and organizational skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and manufacturing systems.
  • Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) or similar certifications preferred.
  • Experience with robotic welding and advanced manufacturing technologies preferred.

  • Ability to work in both office and industrial manufacturing environments.
  • Frequent exposure to welding operations and varying manufacturing conditions.
  • Required use of appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
  • Ability to travel between ASC locations and supplier facilities as required.
