Overview

The Mechanic for the Public Works Streets/Service Center is responsible for performing skilled mechanical work related to the maintenance of heavy-duty streets and drainage equipment, public works vehicles, and public safety vehicles under the supervision of the Public Works Director.

Responsibilities

• Perform maintenance on all heavy equipment and vehicles in the streets, drainage, and parks operation.
• Maintain the mechanic work area and company tools in a safe, secure, clean, and organized manner.
• Establish and execute a preventative maintenance program for heavy equipment and vehicles.
• Maintain accurate receipts and advise the Director on expenses and capital equipment needs.
• Perform other maintenance duties as assigned in the Public Works Department.
• Report problems and emergency situations to the immediate supervisor.
• Respond to emergency maintenance requests during normal and after hours.
• Represent the City professionally with the public, vendors, and agencies.
• Work closely with other members of the Public Works department and City teams.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED.
• Texas Driver's License (Class B or higher) and Safe Driving Record.
• A.S.E. Certification in heavy equipment and diesel engines.
• Minimum of 2 years of mechanic experience in heavy equipment maintenance.
• Specific mechanical certifications are helpful but not required.
• Safety training certifications preferred.

Additional Information

• Shift: 7:30 AM - 4:30 PM, M-F (Non-standard hours may be required).
• Working conditions include outdoor and garage environments, with possible inclement weather.
