Overview

The Chrome Pipe Welder Journeyman is responsible for planning, laying out, welding, installing, testing, and repairing various types of pipes and tubular products in accordance with industry standards and specifications. This skilled position requires precision and the ability to work independently in a construction or industrial setting.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, diagram, and lay out for pipe welder's work.
  • Coordinate with field labor crew for efficient installations.
  • Position the weld setup, fit the piping, and perform precise welds independently.
  • Lay out and assemble pipes accurately according to production standards and specifications.
  • Make welding repairs and correct substandard welds.
  • Assist with coordination of pre-fabrication layout or installation.
  • Assist with rigging of material.
  • Operate air arc gouger, grinder, stress relieving machine, and other industry tools and equipment.
  • Estimate sizes, distances, and quantities for work activities.
  • Inspect subordinate's work for compliance and take corrective action as needed.

Requirements

  • Experience as a Chrome Pipe Welder Journeyman in a Power Plant or Industrial setting.
  • Possess working knowledge, skills, and abilities for the position.
  • Ability to understand, follow, and transmit written and oral instructions.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with management and supervision.
  • Ability to use hand tools, power tools, and layout tools safely and efficiently.

  • Must be able to constantly move about a construction/industrial site.
  • Work in a construction environment with exposure to changing outdoor weather conditions.
  • Work irregular hours, weekends, overtime, and holidays as required.
  • May need to use ladders, mechanical platforms, manlifts, or scaffolds to access work areas.
  • Must be able to climb and maintain balance on formwork, stairs, ladders, and scaffolds.
  • Must be able to complete tasks in a noisy and dusty environment.
  • May need to move items weighing up to 50 pounds across the site.
  • Must have required tools.
  • May require a U.S. Driver License.
  • Must observe and comply with all safety and project rules.
  • Ability to pass pre-access drug and alcohol testing.
  • Ability to pass fit for duty testing.
