Overview
The GTAW/GMAW Pipe Fabrication Welder position involves building precision piping to support production for a leading automotive manufacturer near Decatur, AL. The role requires expertise in welding various materials and ensuring quality standards are met, with potential for long-term growth through a temp-to-hire arrangement.
Responsibilities
- Read and interpret prints and routers; apply basic math to layout and fit-up.
- Set up fixtures and select wire/filler and weld parameters.
- Manually guide torch/gun to achieve required bead profile and penetration.
- Weld in flat, horizontal, and vertical positions on pipe and plate.
- Inspect welds visually and dimensionally; confirm bead size and specs.
- Chip slag/spatter and smooth and finish using grinders and DA sanders.
- Position, clamp, and assemble components in jigs/fixtures.
- Update computer records and paperwork per production requirements.
- Perform basic PM on welding equipment.
- Move work in/out of the cell by forklift.
- Keep the area safe, orderly, and compliant with all quality policies.
- Communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.
Requirements
- 2+ years of hands-on welding experience across processes; proven pipe welding.
- Aluminum welding capability.
- High School Diploma/GED or completion of a certified technical program.
- 2+ years in a machine shop environment.
- Ability to pass an internal weld test.
- Accurate tape-measure use.
- Lift up to 50 lbs; willing to work occasional overtime.
- Steel-toed boots; dependable attendance; follow work instructions.
