Overview

At SMSI, we are seeking a skilled Sheet Metal/Ductwork Fabricator to join our fabrication team. This role involves fabricating high-quality sheet metal ductwork and fittings while ensuring compliance with quality standards in a supportive, family-oriented environment.

Responsibilities

  • Fabricate sheet metal ductwork, fittings, and related components according to project specifications.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, shop drawings, and fabrication details.
  • Measure, mark, cut, bend, assemble, and weld sheet metal using fabrication equipment and hand tools.
  • Operate brakes, rolls, shears, welders, and other fabrication equipment safely and efficiently.
  • Inspect completed work to ensure quality, accuracy, and compliance with project specifications.
  • Determine material requirements and verify dimensions before fabrication.
  • Perform general shop duties, including painting and assisting in other fabrication areas as needed.
  • Maintain equipment, tools, and work areas in a clean, organized, and safe condition.
  • Follow all company policies, OSHA regulations, and established safety procedures.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Proven experience in sheet metal fabrication and welding, with the ability to successfully pass a weld test.
  • Experience fabricating HVAC ductwork and light-gauge sheet metal is highly preferred.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, shop drawings, and technical specifications.
  • Knowledge of fabrication equipment, welding processes, and hand and power tools.
  • Strong understanding of sheet metal materials, fabrication techniques, and quality standards.
  • Excellent attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality work.
  • Ability to perform the physical demands of the position, including standing for extended periods, lifting up to 50 pounds, bending, and operating fabrication equipment.
  • Experience with industrial painting is a plus and willingness to assist in multiple shop functions is preferred.
  • OSHA 10 certification is preferred and required within 30 days of employment if not currently held.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
