The Fabricator/Welder position in Kalamazoo, MI is a contract-to-hire role that involves various welding techniques and responsibilities, including interpreting blueprints and maintaining equipment. The job offers a pay rate starting at $21.60 per hour and includes multiple shifts.
Responsibilities
- Study and interpret blueprints, sketches, and specifications to determine the appropriate welding techniques and procedures.
- Select and prepare materials for welding, including cleaning, cutting, and shaping metal components.
- Set up and operate welding equipment, such as arc welders, gas welders, and plasma cutters, in compliance with safety standards.
- Perform various welding techniques, including arc welding, MIG welding, TIG welding, and oxy-acetylene welding.
- Inspect completed welds to ensure they meet required specifications and quality standards.
- Perform routine maintenance on welding equipment and tools.
- Adhere to safety protocols and procedures to prevent accidents and injuries.
- Work collaboratively with other team members to plan and execute welding projects efficiently.
- Maintain accurate records of welding activities.
- Stay updated on industry trends and best practices to enhance skills.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent; additional vocational training or certification in welding is preferred.
- Proven experience as a welder, preferably in a manufacturing or construction environment.
- Proficiency in various welding techniques, including arc welding, MIG welding, TIG welding, and oxy-acetylene welding.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical drawings.
- Strong commitment to workplace safety and knowledge of safety protocols related to welding operations.
- Excellent physical fitness and stamina to perform welding tasks.
- Keen attention to detail and ability to produce high-quality welds.
- Effective problem-solving skills to troubleshoot welding issues.
- Good communication skills to collaborate effectively with team members.
- Relevant certifications in welding (e.g., AWS Certified Welder) are advantageous.
- Ability to lift and/or move up to 50+ lbs throughout the entire shift.
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, and stoop.
- Ability to use hands to finger, handle, and feel.
- Specific vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust and focus.
