Overview

The Fabricator/Welder position in Kalamazoo, MI is a contract-to-hire role that involves various welding techniques and responsibilities, including interpreting blueprints and maintaining equipment. The job offers a pay rate starting at $21.60 per hour and includes multiple shifts.

Responsibilities

  • Study and interpret blueprints, sketches, and specifications to determine the appropriate welding techniques and procedures.
  • Select and prepare materials for welding, including cleaning, cutting, and shaping metal components.
  • Set up and operate welding equipment, such as arc welders, gas welders, and plasma cutters, in compliance with safety standards.
  • Perform various welding techniques, including arc welding, MIG welding, TIG welding, and oxy-acetylene welding.
  • Inspect completed welds to ensure they meet required specifications and quality standards.
  • Perform routine maintenance on welding equipment and tools.
  • Adhere to safety protocols and procedures to prevent accidents and injuries.
  • Work collaboratively with other team members to plan and execute welding projects efficiently.
  • Maintain accurate records of welding activities.
  • Stay updated on industry trends and best practices to enhance skills.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent; additional vocational training or certification in welding is preferred.
  • Proven experience as a welder, preferably in a manufacturing or construction environment.
  • Proficiency in various welding techniques, including arc welding, MIG welding, TIG welding, and oxy-acetylene welding.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical drawings.
  • Strong commitment to workplace safety and knowledge of safety protocols related to welding operations.
  • Excellent physical fitness and stamina to perform welding tasks.
  • Keen attention to detail and ability to produce high-quality welds.
  • Effective problem-solving skills to troubleshoot welding issues.
  • Good communication skills to collaborate effectively with team members.
  • Relevant certifications in welding (e.g., AWS Certified Welder) are advantageous.
  • Ability to lift and/or move up to 50+ lbs throughout the entire shift.
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, and stoop.
  • Ability to use hands to finger, handle, and feel.
  • Specific vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust and focus.
  • Ability to understand and communicate work instructions.
